Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari (2015)

F4015685-7E83-4C72-8951-85C236366FAFShocking yet intriguing predictions about the future are provided in this exceptional book. Written by a successful professor and historian, this book dissects our overall history in order to predict what might happen in the future. And, based on many new technological breakthroughs currently being developed, the author takes a look at the ways in which these various alleged improvements could greatly alter our daily lives.

After a very long opening chapter, Part One begins in which the author analyzes the past and present relationship between humans and animals. In Part Two, our common belief systems are examined, mainly concerning science and religion. And, Part Three explores new technology and predicts possible futures that are surprisingly different than what most people could even imagine.

Although I am not sure that I completely agree with all of the author’s assertions, particularly concerning the existence of a soul or spirit, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a well-written and thought-provoking book that challenges the reader with an unusual perspective. The writing style is engrossing and easy to understand. I would recommend this book to anyone with an open mind. This book may be of particular interest to those who enjoy history, technology, or predictions about the future.
