The Mediterranean Diet Cookbook by Denise Hazime (2014)

B167652E-ACE0-47B8-ACEB-907024F44035This highly recommended diet should not be mistaken as just another fad. Having been around for more than 50 years, this diet plan has been proven to be beneficial in many ways. It can decrease your risk for such diseases as: heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It can also assist in controlling Type 2 diabetes, and many more health issues.

This cookbook offers over 200 examples of breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack and dessert recipes. The ingredients are mostly common everyday things you can get from the grocery store. There are also quite a few spices needed; and, red wine, in moderation, is permitted. This book explains that this diet is not a short-term commitment for quick weight loss results. Although it is expected that you will lose weight, this is more profoundly a change in lifestyle. One that promotes healthy meals and snacks, exercise, and stress reduction that includes plenty of sleep and time with family.

Having recently had an issue with my own health, I found the benefits of this diet to be very intriguing. The recipes seem interesting and delicious. Unfortunately, there are no pictures included in this book. And, the only draw-back is that some of the meals are somewhat time consuming to make. Both the preparation and cooking times are provided at the top of each recipe to assist you in making your selections. I found this to be a good introduction for this diet. I recommend it to anyone looking for a healthy diet.
