The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (2014)

BB9949AC-E500-4365-8815-44B483AD1640This bestselling novel is a dark and suspenseful thriller about three women who are connected by the most unfavourable of circumstances. It is also a story of addiction,  compulsive behaviour and poor choices which results in bringing out the worst aspects of each of these three women and their lives. The characters are complicated, yet believable. The main character, Rachel, is likeable despite her many failings.

Rachel enjoys taking the train to and from work. She likes to gaze out the window as she goes by. But one day, she sees something terrible. Something she can’t believe. It changes everything and sets her on a course of deception, intrigue and obsession.

This interesting book is an easy and compelling read. The suspense is gripping right from the first page. I found myself immediately getting wrapped up in the plot and remained engrossed throughout the constant twists and turns of the storyline. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great mystery with memorable characters and a well-crafted story. A thrilling summer read!
